Holly Humberstone is one of the greatest musicians of our time, yet barely anyone knows about her. On Thursday afternoon, I was blessed with the opportunity to speak with Holly to discuss her new album “Paint My Bedroom Black.”
Holly released her new album on Friday, October 13. Her album features songs such as “Into Your Room,” “Cocoon,” “Ghost Me,” and so many more amazing hits.
However, Holly shared that she almost named her album something completely different. At first, it was called “I’m Just Going Through It” with the first track being “Cocoon” instead of “Paint My Bedroom Black”.
Holly was asked why she chose the style she did for this new album, to which she responded that “the hardest part of this album is figuring out what I haven’t done before.” She said that she loved her past style in her last few EPs but it was time to try something new, which is what makes “Paint My Bedroom Black” stand out so much from her older projects.
Holly was asked about what her career goals are in the future, and she responded: “I don’t have the ability to see too far into the future… it scares me a little bit because I really wanna do this forever.” Her vulnerability is truly inspiring; she is so open with her fans about her feelings which is something not many other artists can do.
My favorite song of Holly’s would have to be “Flatlining” because I think it’s such an interesting topic. It is a lyrical masterpiece with a special meaning and a strong beat. She shared that she wrote it about her ex-boyfriend moving down the block from her with her best friend. This song is so vulnerable and real which makes it even more beautiful. “We just can’t be friends anymore, I’ll pull the plug and let the line go flat,” Holly sings.
When Holly was asked how she manages her mental health when she is so busy with her career. Holly answered with, “If you’re creative and care about your job, you’re never off the clock… We all have to make time for ourselves.”
Holly Humberstone is an honest and relatable person who is so humble about what she does. Her new album reflects how passionate she is about her career. If you haven’t taken the time to listen to “Paint My Bedroom Black”, please do. Anything made by Holly is guaranteed to be incredible.
