This was my second time seeing Lake Street Dive perform live, and it’s safe to say they were just as good as the last. Lake Street Dive performed at the Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut, on September 5. The venue itself was not my favorite, with limited parking, but they had good food options, and every seat had a good view of the stage.
Lake Street Dive was opened by Lawrence, an up-and-coming family band with a similar music style to Lake Street Dive. I must say that I was very excited to finally be able to see them concert, and they did not disappoint.
Gracie Lawrence, the lead singer, has an amazing stage presence, definitely due in part to her experience as a Broadway actress. Both Clyde Lawrence and Gracie have strong voices that complement each other well. They do a perfect job at bringing the audience in and making you feel like a part of the family business!
Although it took some time for Lake Street Dive to come on, they did not disappoint. From the bright colors of the set to the shimmering dress of their lead singer, Rachael Price, you could not take your eyes from the stage.
They played a mix of songs from their newest album, “Good Together,” and some of their previous releases like “Obviously” and “Side Pony.”
They featured the skills of many of their members, including Akie Bermiss, who had a beautiful piano solo, as well as a trumpet solo at the beginning of “Mistakes” by one of their guest performers.
One of the most amazing parts of their performance was when we got a sneak peek at a song called “Gertrude,” written by Bermiss, that will be in their next album. Before they played the song, they challenged the audience to think about what the meaning of the song was.
Overall, this was an amazing experience! Lake Street Dive is a very fun band to see perform live. And I think Lawrence has a very bright future ahead of them in the music industry!
