On the last night of November, College Street Music Hall hosted a sold-out show for fans of Girl In Red and Gigi Perez as the “I’m Doing It Again, Baby” tour. This tour was named after Girl in Red’s opening song “DOING IT AGAIN BABY.”
The show opened with the special guest and New Jersey native, Gigi Perez, who quickly rose to fame on TikTok for “Sailor Song.” Perez also played some not so well-known songs like “Please Be Rude” and “Normalcy.”
After her set, the crowd erupted in excitement for the arrival of Girl in Red. While waiting, the venue played hits like “Hot To Go” by Chappell Roan and “Bed Chem” by Sabrina Carpenter. This encouraged the crowd’s anticipation.
Girl in Red, then, rose to the stage in red lights, wearing a blue outfit and mix-matched shoes, while fans erupted with joy. Singer Marie Ringhiem, started her set with two very well-known songs, “DOING IT AGAIN BABY” and “bad idea.” Ringhiem jumped and moved across the entire stage, giving her audience a great view no matter where they were. The entirety of the sold-out College Street Music Hall began singing along, while jumping and dancing to the music.
During her introduction, Ringhiem began to tell a story of her adventures in New Haven, saying she felt as if she was in the show “Gilmore Girls.” She began to describe a bookstore with carolers that “magically appeared.” She then interacted with a fan in the audience who held up a sign stating, “Sorry I ran from you at the bookstore, I panicked.”
She then sat down at the piano to play a bit of her Christmas song “Two Queens in a King Sized Bed” claiming that New Haven put her in the Christmas spirit. Afterwards, she starts playing a few cords on the piano while talking about the hardships of being on tour, and away from the people she loves for so long. She then went on to mention her girlfriend, discussing the difficulty of long distance relationships, which made her start to cry. As she was crying, the crowd was nothing but supportive shouting things like “we love you” and “we’re here for you.”
After her brief cry, Ringhiem managed to pull herself together and play her song “hornylovesickmess,” which starts with the phrase “I’m in New York thinking of you.” This, obviously tied to her recent discussion on missing her girlfriend, although she clarified it was actually written about another woman. This song, again, made her emotional, yet she managed to hold it together for the remainder of the song.
She, then, removed herself from the piano joking it was cursed, which is why she started to cry. She then started to play a few songs with her guitar, stating that she was recently diagnosed with bronchitis, and singing acoustic was easier for her voice. During this, she played “Serotonin” and “watch you sleep.”
Then, she began to sing one of her most popular songs “We Fell In Love In October,” however stopped halfway through due to a fan passing out. After she made sure her fan was okay, she continued to sing a couple more songs, ending the night off by jumping into the crowd to “I wanna be your girlfriend.” This moment offered fans an even closer look at her, while filling them with joy as the night ended on College Street.
