M&T Bank Arena may belong to the Quinnipiac University athletic teams, but on April 14, someone else will be singing, “Welcome to my house.”
Quinnipiac’s Student Programming Board announced on Wednesday that rapper/singer Flo Rida will be headlining its annual indoor spring concert, Wake The Giant. This marks the second year in a row that a rap/hip-hop artist was chosen, with Migos member Offset taking the stage in 2023.
2023 was also the first year that Wake The Giant was a concert and not a comedy show since 2019 – the event was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and comedians visited the school virtually in 2021. Two comedians from “Saturday Night Live” headlined the event in 2022, after “Impractical Jokers” star Sal Vulcano canceled last minute, citing health issues.
While Offset has been one of the most popular artists of the 2020s, Flo Rida will bring a nostalgic vibe to the student body. Known for hits like 2008’s “Low,” 2009’s “Right Round,” 2012’s “Wild Ones” and 2015’s “GDFR,” he has over 33 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
Wake The Giant has been a Quinnipiac tradition for over two decades, with artists like Ludacris, The Fray, Ke$ha, Jason Derulo, Fetty Wap, Khalid and more performing at the event over the years. The concert is planned by SPB’s mainstage committee, made up of directors and executive board members within the organization.
If thinking about seeing Flo Rida on campus gives you a “good feeling,” you’re in luck. Tickets will go on sale for undergraduate students on Friday, April 5 at 12 p.m. EST.
Floor tickets will be $25 each and general admission seats in the stands will be $20. Undergraduate students will be limited to one ticket each, and the name on their ticket must match the name on their Q-Card.
Details on graduate student tickets are to be determined. The event is set to start at 8 p.m. with a performance by DJ Fire before Flo Rida closes out the night.
Anyone interested in becoming a Wake The Giant volunteer should follow SPB on Instagram @QUSPB and keep an eye out for more details coming soon. Flo Rida may think that the “club can’t handle” him, but here at Club WQAQ, we can’t wait to jam out to his hits on campus next month!
